Meet at the Davis Lake Overlook parking lot (8371 Eaton Rd, Davisburg, MI 48350)

 Dress for weather and insects, including ticks.  Be sparing with sprays and lotions toxic to human and insects.

Experience a rigorous hike totaling approximately 2 miles of established and unimproved rustic trails through the varied habitats and terrain of the Shiawassee Basin Preserve. This moderate intensity hike will begin at the Davis Lake Overlook and reach a scenic overlook offering one of the best views of Long Lake and the wetland natural area that surrounds it.

Fen is a type of peat-accumulating wetland fed by mineral-rich ground or surface water. This special habitat is also one of the few areas where the endangered Poweshiek Skipperling, a small butterfly that depends on high quality prairie habitats like our fen for its survival. Learn more here!

Detailed Directions:

The Davis Lake Overlook Parking Lot is located on Eaton Road just north of the village of Davisburg. At the intersection of Eaton and Davisburg Roads, Travel north on Eaton Road about 1/2 mile.  After crossing the river valley, look for the parking lot on your left. There are no park entry fees at the Preserve.  Parking is limited, consider carpooling
